چکیده

A key component of a sediment yield prediction is an estimate of the sediment deposition between erosion sources and a drainage basin outlet. This technical note presents methods requiring a minimum of data which can be used to assess the importance of sediment deposition within the river system of a basin. The methods were applied to a 4123 km basin in the Philippines. Results indicated that sediment deposition within this river system had no significant effects on the overall sediment yield.

Assessing the applicability of the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE) to Irish Catchments

Elevated suspended sediment concentrations in fluvial environments have important implications for system ecology and even small concentrations may have serious consequences for sensitive ecosystems or organisms, such as freshwater pearl mussels (Margaritifera margaritifera). Informed decision making is therefore required for land managers to understand and control soil erosion and sediment del...

Investigation Resistance of Sediment Particle to Erosion in Saraskanchai River by Use of Mathematical Methods

In addition to Erodibility of sediment particles in river increase river sediment load, they are important factors in morphological changes. In the rivers that erodibility is high, trend of morphological changes are intensive that in this case, river is unstable. On the contrary, it will lead stability and low changes of the river. Study area of this research is Saraskanchay that has been locat...

What Role do Hurricanes Play in Sediment Delivery to Subsiding River Deltas?

The Mississippi River Delta (MRD) has undergone tremendous land loss over the past century due to natural and anthropogenic influences, a fate shared by many river deltas globally. A globally unprecedented effort to restore and sustain the remaining subaerial portions of the delta is now underway, an endeavor that is expected to cost $50-100B over the next 50 yr. Success of this effort requires...

Estimation of the suspended sediment load in rivers with different hydrological methods (case study: Siahrood river in Mazandaran)

In a watershed, sediment arises due to the erosion and some factors such as pastures destruction, change users, no reasonable cultivation. That causes problems such as sedimentation in reservoirs andreduces their useful volume, reducing water quality in agricultural consumption; reduce the efficiencyof hydraulic structures and some other environmental problems. Changes in sediment load in a rive...

Investigation of Possibility of Suspended Sediment Prediction Using a Combination of Sediment Rating Curve and Artificial Neural Network Case Study: Ghatorchai River, Yazdakan Bridge

Estimation of sediment loads in rivers is one of the most important, difficult components of sediment transport studies and river engineering. Accessing new methods that can be effective in this background are more important. In this research, we have used the artificial neural network (ANN) to optimize the results of the sediment rating curve (SRC) to predict the suspended sediment loads. For ...
